The initial stage of the selection process is the Computer-Based Test (CBT). The CBT is structured to evaluate the candidate’s general intelligence and reasoning abilities, general awareness, and English language and comprehension skills. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions, with the subjects divided into three sections:
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 50 questions
- General Awareness: 50 questions
- English Language and Comprehension: 100 questions
The total duration of the CBT is 2 hours, and each question carries one mark. Notably, there is a negative marking scheme, where 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer. Therefore, candidates must answer cautiously to avoid unnecessary penalties.
Upon successfully clearing the CBT, candidates advance to the Skill Test in stenography. This stage assesses the candidate’s ability to transcribe dictated passages accurately and efficiently. For Stenographer Grade C, candidates are required to transcribe a dictated passage in 10 minutes in either English (100 words per minute) or Hindi (100 words per minute). The transcription time allotted is 40 minutes for English and 55 minutes for Hindi.
Preparation is key to succeeding in both stages of the selection process. For the CBT, candidates should practice previous years’ question papers and take mock tests to familiarize themselves with the exam pattern and time management. For the Skill Test, regular practice in stenography, focusing on speed and accuracy, is essential. Utilizing dictation software can also be beneficial in simulating exam conditions.
By following these preparation tips and utilizing the recommended resources, candidates can significantly boost their chances of excelling in the SSC Stenographer Grade C exam.
